Abstract: The usual Hertz-Knudsen relation derived for the rate of evaporation of pure liquids is given by n =(2πMRTs)-1/2(Ps-P). The rate of evaporation is shown to be represented as well, if not better, by a relation derived from a classical thermodynamic treatment of the forced vaporization of water as a steady-rate process. On the basis of this derivation, the mass flow is decribed by the equation n=NA-1ln(P0/P).
