Abstract:
Fire extinguishing systems for the advanced aircraft to 1980 will be required to operate efficiently over a wider range of environmental conditions than ever before. To determine what these environmental conditions will be for engine nacelles and adjacent compartments, a study was performed using an existing high performance aircraft. Using this aircraft, its operational parameters were extrapolated out to the advanced aircraft environment. This study defines the environment in which the fire extinguishing system will be required to operate, primary and secondary fire zones, ignition sources, combustibles, and fire extinguishing agent requirements.
