Efforts are concerned with: (1) the application of network synthesis methods to band pass filters and (2) electromechanical filter literature review. Examples of synthesis techniques are illustrated. These examples show how ladder band pass filters with a specific response are designed. The criteria for minimum values of element Q are established (on the basis of resonant and antiresonant circuits of the same Q for the realization of the shape of a given network response. A simple graphical method for the determination of the response of a network is presented. This method applied to both the lossless case and the case for which losses are taken into account in the design of the filter. The literature review dealing with electromechanical filters is presented. Summaries are give of the published characteristics of rod, disk-and-wire, and plate-and-wire filters; and of magnetostrictive, piezoelectric, electrostatic, and electromagnetic transducers.
